Curriculum
DLD Sycamore School provides a strong language based instructional model across all core classroom areas. The curriculum meets the needs of students with learning difficulties in the areas of reading, including dyslexia, written language, math and other individual learning differences.
Textbooks are provided by DLD Sycamore School.
Field-Trips are included in the education program.
Homework is Limited to 30 minutes a day.
- READING: DLD Sycamore provides an individualized, Orton-Gillingham focused, reading program which is multi-sensory and phonics based sound and symbols training, manuscript and cursive writing, as well as, an integrated spelling curriculum.
- Literature: The teachers build solid foundation in literature with the students. The curriculum includes basal reading programs as well as library and chapter books for the Elementary and Mid-High students. American Literature and English Literature are emphasized in the High School curriculum.
- Written Language: The language program is centered around core writing activities. Students are introduced to forms of writing, vocabulary and reading strategies, grammar instruction, thinking and creative writing workshops, and daily writing activities.
- Math: The Touch Math program is a visual learning approach designed to meet the needs of students with math difficulties. The DLD staff strives to meet each student's personal learning style in math by providing individualized hands on and/or traditional math instruction. The use of math manipulatives enhance the students concept development and acquisition of skills.
- Supplemental Curriculum Areas: Each student participates in a social skills communication program. The class provides the opportunity for each student to participate in role-play that enhances public speaking, body language awareness, and improvement of social interactions.
- Visual Arts, Music, and Physical Education are also available for our students' individual talents and interests.
