About us
A bit of history:
DLD Sycamore, originally just DLD School, began in 1982 and was inaugurated by a group of experienced educators who believed that an alternative to public school education was needed. The school has been successful and effective in educating students who learn uniquely and differently since.
The Focus:
We focus on students who have average or higher degrees of learning, but may:
- have difficulty with reading, learning to read, write or spell;
- have problems with math;
- have a short attention span or is easily distracted;
- have difficultly organizing and finishing a task;
- have letter and/or reversals and inversions;
- have difficulty listening and following directions'
- not be able to inhibit or control impulsive behaviors;
- have poor or immature social interactions with peers and/or adults
- have a very poor self-
concept and lack of confidence.
*All young people exhibit some of these behaviors occasionally. If your child demonstrates a number of them consistently, you may wish to contact DLD Sycamore School.
Our Purpose:
The purpose of DLD Sycamore School is to provide a quality education for students who have unique and different style of learning. We provide an appropriate and caring environment, which allows each student to realize their potential.
Enrollment:
The enrollment at DLD Sycamore School may vary from 20 to 30 students. Students are groups based on their level of academic achievement, their individual learning styles and need for accommodations, and with peers of approximately the same chronological age.
